Our Project Initiative
The Mindful Aging Project (MAP) is a community-based initiative that brings immigrant elders from diverse backgrounds together to promote social connection, personal well-being, and environmental stewardship through meditation and community gardening.
As part of a collaborative effort, MAP uses simple, practical approaches to address both elder care and environmental sustainability. Each year, the program trains and supports a cohort of immigrant seniors, equipping them with:
-
Holistic health education (physical, mental, and social well-being)
-
Traditional community gardening practices
-
Skills for developing personal or group gardens in their neighborhoods
Participants are encouraged to stay involved beyond the training by creating and nurturing their own garden spaces, thereby fostering a deeper connection to nature, community, and themselves.
MAP’s long-term vision is to become a self-sustaining, multi-year initiative with new annual cohorts of elder environmental stewards working toward a healthier, more connected future.
